Arguement essay

Books have been getting banned or challenged as many would say for a very long time. It seems that in every book that has social issues expressed in it gets banned. Us as kids see and hear lots of things we shouldn't hear but no one bans cellphones use and we can find even more disturbing things on a cellphone. In the book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry deals with a life of plainness and a life where poverty, murder and crime is the past. Although the story the giver deals with sexuality and plainness it should not get banned from our libraries because we are mature kids and we all know that he issues the characters in the book go through we go through the same things.

Many parents argue about banning The Giver all the time because of its gruesome scenes and sexual references. One parent from Franklin county kansas argued that the giver has to much gruesome scenes" I chose the side of challenging because of themes of murder and Degradation of a mother". I do understand why the parent might want to challenge the book but even though it deals with these factors it isn't worse than stuff you find on the internet. That makes up for one of the reasons it should not get banned.

Lots of parents still say that books should get banned in schools i think not. " Parents hate seeing their kids read explicit graphic scenes because they say it messes with their minds how does it do that if the cellphones you buy your children always have even more disgusting things". I may seem weird that parents think their kids are angels but those are parents for you and i believe that they should loosen up on us children.

Although many people say The Giver is a bad influence on us and that it should get banned from our libraries i kinda agree because there are some real sexual parts in this book that are too graphic, However it also talks about how a child stands up not only for himself but for others and disobeys the communities orders and runs away with his brother before his brother gets released or killed. This may help kids with low self esteem stand up and fight instead of crying and staying quiet.

To bring this to a close, they should not ban the giver because kids should be able to read what they want. Basically what im trying to say is that you people that banned books have no rights because we have a choice to.Hopefully a change is made.

                           Draft Part 1

Books have been getting banned in school or as i should say challenged in many school libraries. It seems that every book that has a social issue expressed in them gets banned. Us as kids see and hear many things daily that we shouldn't hear but no one has say over that but people can ban books right. I believe it isn't right to ban books because of the issue's expressed in them we can find even worse stuff on our smart phones and they want to ban books.
In the book"The Giver" by Lois Lowry it explains the life of everyone living exactly the same no kind of choice could be made on your own. This book may deal with sexuality and problems with social acceptance but it should stay in our libraries because as kids we can always find a way to see something we aren't supposed to see and as 8th graders we are mature enough for all this going on in these books.

The giver should not be banned because of its sexuality because in reality we know all about sex and turn ons and puberty so why ban the book if we know about the topic so much.

It should also not be banned for the social acceptance because again us as young adults know what it feels like to get excluded or bullied because of reputation and it is part of life.

Some may say this book The Giver gets to gruesome sometimes i may agree with them but it gives you no right to take it away from libraries maybe the kids tht read it dont like reading stuff like that and it all depends on what typ of kid you are.

To wrap this up The Giver should not be banned because of issues expressed in the book.

1 Q- What was it like to be away from your family knowing that you could die without saying goodbye ate any given moment in the army?

A-  Well it was hard but not that hard you see when i went into the army i was 18 and i didnt meet your mother until 21 so i only had my Mom,Dad and my little brother and there wasn't much out her in the late 70's so i figured me and my brother would have fun in the army and turns out we had the time of our lives and i knew that i could survive anything with my brother at my side and i also knew my Mom and Dad were going to be ok know thinking back on it i made the right decision 20 years ago because without me going to the army i would've gotten locked up and I definitely wouldn't have met your mother.

2  Q- Why did you join the army?

A- I already kind of explained that but joine because there wasn't much to live for in the late 70's in New York so i figured I outta try this Army thing out for a change and it gave me a wonderful life after the army

3  Q- Last but not least, What would you say to the people in the army now and if you were still in the army what would you do to help this world?

A- There isn't much to say but this for all you soldiers keep your head up and focus you cannot side track worry about your squad and your squad only and for helping america thats up to the citizens

Mike Rosen a person who wrote a poem about 9/11 touched many peoples hearts he used so much feelings that even someone that didn't know about that event could feel what happened he got what he wanted to get across and what i think he wanted to get across was that At times there may be grief and agony but there is always something good that will come out of it and when it does it will come out hard so he believes we shouldn't grief but look for better days to come.

What is Pain by Zack Stdic

 Pain is weakness leaving you
Pain is what keeps you motivated
Pain is anger
   Pain is everyones weakness
Finally Pain is a disease no one is immune to it
Avoid it by not letting it take over you
Pain is the WORLD

People always discriminate gay people around the world they are treated as is they arent human at all.  Some gay people are able to take all the insults but others are not. This leads to suicides in most cases.  This has been going on since the 1900s.  In 1969 Police raided stonewall inn were gay men were and beat them down the people who were hurt gathered some friends and boycotted throughout the streets.  After this event the gay rights movement started and it became known as the Stonewall act.  These gay people stood by what they felt was right and worked hard enough to get what they wanted they are truly Activists

In the book" The Giver" by Lois Lowry.  Small 11yr old Jonas is chosen by his Community to be the next receiver of memory.  His Community's memories have been washed away and everything is the same they all have Sameness there is nothing unique that pops out from anyone everything, feeling ex is the same.  Jonas was chosen to share the memories with the rest of his people even if it involves pain.  This book isn't all that bad so why should it get banned?  I SAY IT SHOULDNT.

One reason this book shouldn't get banned is because as middle school students we are mature enough for many disturbing things. "The hands came and the pain came with them and through them".  I wont lie this may make Parents a little uneasy but we are mature enough maybe one or two kids may laugh thinking that in this part Jonas is doing something inappropriate but we are all mature the teacher will shut that down in a instant. "I wanted her to take off her clothes and get into the tub, I had the sponge in my hand but she wouldn't she kept laughing and saying no". This may have some kids laughing because the girl is around Jonas's age and she is nude in the tub but as I said before we are all mature enough for all this.

There may be a way that supports the side of this book being banned is the sameness because I know no parent would want their kids thinking it is alright to be the same and not stand out and in the beginning that is what this book is getting at. But that is only one way so don't get to tied up on that argument.

To wrap this up this book should not be banned it is totally fine for kids our age reading these books and there is a movie on this book and I am pretty sure that you Parents out there let your kids watch it.  But anyway they should keep this book in our library because you can learn lots of lessons from this book.

Annabeth the (Wide Eyed Hero)

In the beginning Annabeth Chase Was conflicted between saving the world or saving herself she was scared to go on this quest knowing this may cause her death and maybe even the world’s fate.

In the middle Annabeth became even more reluctant to take on this quest she still wanted to live she didn’t want to die she had her boyfriend Percy and all of her friends why would she give that all away because of a stupid quest,

In the end Annabeth step out of her Wide eyed hero stage and she became a Feminist(Female hero) because she owned up to her quest and continued her journey to save the world but only for a cost she is partially a Tragic hero to because after succeeding where her others had failed she and her boyfriend Percy fell in to tartarus the deepest and darkest part of earth and the underworld where all the monsters who are killed go to live no mortal has ever made into tartarus and back out alive but Nico the son of Hades the god of the underworld and even Nico found it hard to get he could barely get out alive so in the end, Annabeth is a Wide eyed hero a feminist and a Tragic hero.

2nd Blog Post

In the book “Mark of Athena” by Rick Riordan, Annabeth Chase the daughter of Athena is sent on a quest with 6 other demigods each on their own quest. The 6 demigods are Percy, Piper, Frank, Hazel, Leo and Jason.  After Leo goes crazy and burns New Rome the seven flee to Rome to complete their quest.  Annabeth is on the most dangerous one because if she dies the world will fall.  Annabeth is conflicted between saving the world or saving herself.  In the beginning Annabeth was reluctant about completing her quest alone knowing that the others are completing their quests together but then she feels determined to save the world and succeed where her other siblings failed.

One way Annabeth is feeling reluctant about going on her quest alone is by this quote.  “Annabeth looked up one last time at the top of the stairwell the sky was brilliant blue mortals would be enjoying the warm afternoon”.  This is basically showing how she is reluctant because she is looking at the sky knowing that if she goes to complete this quest she may never she may never see the sky again.  This also shows that she knows what is awaiting her and she needs to own up to it to save the world.

To come to a close Annabeth felt like this wasn’t a task she can take up alone but at the end she realized that if she didn’t complete this task the world will be ruled by Gaea the evil earth goddess.  Annabeth is very strong for still going to complete the quest for the sake of the world because without her there wont be any world needing saving anymore.
